Bought my first Rolex in 1980. Have had at least one ever since. As a lefty, am hard on watches, thus the reason for Rolex. Durable. The first one I bought was an Explorer II which I purchased for $400 at the base exchange. Eventually around 1991 I bought what I truly wanted, a GMT. Also $400 at the base. I sold off the Explorer to a friend in the office fro what I bought it for. By 2000 I wound up buying a new GMT II in gold and SS as well as a no date Submariner—both on the same day. And they are my current watches. Both keep excellent time. As a USAF navigator, I was the time standard for my aircraft. I had to have precise time.

The new Rolex Submariner Date 126610LN is too big. Bracelet is too thick. The 116610LN is perfect

I have loved watches since I was a teenager, started with a Seiko that my mother bought me for my birthday, then a Movado, etc. etc…Then my sister got married and there was this brand Tag Heuer that caught my eye and that’s where it really all began.

I still have that Tag and still get compliments on it, then I added a Brietling (when I turned 40), 2 Omegas (when my dear grandmother passed), Betolucci (wedding gift from my wife), Cartier Roadster (I just loved the look of this watch and interchangeable band deployment) and the best for last…my Rolex Sub 116610.

My Rolex was purchased in remembrance of my dad who passed a year ago. He always wanted a Rolex but never bought himself one and upon his passing, I discovered he could’ve bought a Rolex for every member of our family and it would have been a drop in his bucket. He grew up in a different time he always told me and denied himself this one luxury he could have passed on to me and from me to my son. I told my son that this Rolex watch will one day be his and I want him to always think of/remember his grandfather when he wears it.

Every watch of mine has a story to it and that’s what I love about watches more than the watches themselves.

My first rolex was a datejust in 2015. It felt so good on my wrist, then in 2018 I bought a submariner and it felt even better. Friends laugh at me because I am a walking contradiction wearing clothes that are 10 years old and ratty but a rolex on the wrist. You can feel the difference when wearing them tho.

I’m 60 and I’ve had a watch on my wrist since I was 12. I never take it off. I sleep with one on. When forced to remove it for whatever reason, I’m constantly aware and uneasy. Empty without it and by watch, I mean a mechanical automatic. No quartz or smartwatch nonsense. My dream watch had always been the Sub date but I never made the jump. Until 2015 when I bought it from Mayors. Since that time I’ve been fortunate to add the 2022 GMT Master II Pepsi and 2022 Air King. All brand new at Rolex retail from the same dealer. I try to rotate each watch on my wrist every three days or so. (Like my guns, they’re not safe queens). Problem? NOTHING feels like the Sub. NOTHING. Not even the Pepsi. I do wear that whenever I travel and actually do use the GMT feature but nothing feels, wears, acts like the Sub on the wrist. I actually feel guilty when I find I have seven days with the sub on before pulling one of the others off of the winder. My final Rolex purchase will be the GMT Batman as I patiently wait on the list and while it too is absolutely gorgeous, like the Pepsi and Air King, it won’t touch the Sub.

I’m 66 and I’ve spent thousands on Sports Cars, Harley Davidsons and Guns in my life. For the last 25 years I’ve worn the same GShock.I knew only of the Rolex Submariner. Could’ve bought one in the Navy in the 70’s for $200. Just wasn’t on my radar. Jump to the fall of 2021. I was gifted a Steel Solar GShock. I tripped over the rabbit hole. Looked into it and fell in head first. Bought a Seiko Samurai Manta Ray in December 2021. Bought a Tudor Pelagos in March 2022. Bought an Omega Swatch Pluto in December 2022 and now landed a Sub Date this month. I can’t stop looking at it. I would say I’m going to be buried with it on my wrist but I’ll give it to my Grandson but make him sign a lifetime contract never to sell it 😀

Our great family friend “Uncle” Rex was a US Navy Seal; he was bigger than life with stories to match and Rolex Submariner. I can never remember not wanting one. I used my first Navy paycheck to buy mine. That was almost 40 years ago and I still wear it every day.

Like George, I wanted one as a teenager and had a cut out picture from a magazine on my desk to remind. I finally managed to buy one in my mid twenties & 30 years later I still wear it nearly every day.

I’ve wanted one since I was 15. Finally bought a new one at 35, and it hasn’t left my wrist in 23 years. Best purchase I’ve ever made.
