I have a Seiko Presage with the brown dial. Overall I’ve liked the watch but it has one major design flaw that I am astounded Seiko let out the door. The date printing is light gold and very small. Against the brown background it is unreadable. I never bother with it anymore because it can’t be read, no matter how much angling I do to get good light, etc.

Just started looking into seiko watches and appreciate the models shown. Iβve also been learning more about the history of seiko including the Credor version. Beautiful watches. Thank you.

I have to add the new, in my opinion, “Future Classic”, Prospex Alpinist Australasian Limited Edition with a mindblowing red dial and the 6R35 movement and 70 hours power reserve. Limited to 1000 and already sold out unfortunately…

If you really want top seikos, ditch the giant clown dials and get some classics. Start with a mint sgf204 or sgf206 and go from there…

I was hoping to see the iconic Captain Willard listed here. Oh well, βto each, his own.β Great insight to the wonderful timepiece options from Seiko all the same.

I almost bought a cocktail time but the build quality for the money it costs is a bit on the poor side

Unfortunately another bland selection of watches highlighted in this article.
There are so many amazing Seiko watches, especially the Japanese market ones.
Hi, we’re sorry you feel that way. Would you share with us your personal top 3 Seiko Models?

Hello there,
Nice piece, but isn’t there a mixup with the diver photo? It looks more like a Prospex than the SRPK97.
Would be nice if that one was $400…
Kind regards, John.
It definitely is (or rather was). It’s a shame that the current offerings of Seiko in terms of mechanical chronographs leave much to be desired in terms of variety.

Still I’m not able to consider Japanese timepieces as alternative or competitive to the Swiss & German watchmaking
Very interesting Thankyou. I used to sell Seiko watches back in the 1980βs. I would also be very interested in older Rolex models like the bubble back and the trench/tank models

These Seiko watches are exquisite. Tim has reminded us that you don’t have to spend a fortune to acquire a gorgeous-looking timepiece.

How about Seiko Alpinist SPB121J1? I have one (green). But I liked your choices very much. Thanks for sharing.
That one is also a current fan favorite and boasts 70 hours of power reserve. It would be one of my second or third picks right after those cocktail-time models.

Good to see attention paid to Seiko who have been providing quality, beauty, and technology advances at competitive prices for years.

It is indeed, it should show a SRPK97 instead.
