What percentage of Daytona buyers / owners ever use the pushers? My guess is less than one percent. It’s bragging rights only. So and so has a Daytona, so I want one.

The list wasn’t that bad. I would like to see a nice Day date watch in that list.

Tropical dial… Who cares? You definitely got the wrong Milgauss…… Should’ve been the 6541. It sometimes seems the so-called experts know nothing
I love those! I need an Oysterquartz and a King Midas too.

Interesting reading though it’s fairly amusing to read of the “intended” clientele for certain watches. As if spelunkers and CERN scientists could ever afford a Rolex.
At the time of its release, in 1971, the Rolex Explorer (1655) was not regarded as a status symbol, but was simply a high quality tool watch. The Explorer II 1655 was aimed specifically at speleologists and cost a few hundred dollars at the time. Rolex watches are now seen as status symbols, but that’s not how Rolex began. They were tool watches.

Odd’s for such a worthwhile label like Rolex are rare, rarity & value are synonymous, good read.

Worthwhile, well researched and and informative article. I didn’t know there had been a Milgauss prior to the better known model with the green hue and lightning bolt secondhand.
Very well made point that perfection is not necessarily synonymous with creativity. I have a white faced Daytona (circa 2013) with APH dial and the concept that imperfection is more valuable than perfection has always intrigued me!

I live in the surroundings of Geneva. The fact of knowing, the Milgaus watch had to do something with CERN, makes the watch more interesting to have it, as there is a story behind, and to me, it gives a personal double value to have one!!

On Explorer II Freccione what time is it? I’m sure it’s 10.10:16 (am) the same as my explorer would be but confused by your description explaining it’s odd

The mods Rolex made to the Zenith El Primero movement “to ensure the quality Rolex was and is known for” is a bit harsh. The El Primero is a darn good in house movement. I suspect Rolex likely wanted to extend the power reserve and eliminate the date function rather than improve the quality..

I guess, beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
My favourite is my trusty steel Oysterquartz. The most accurate watch of them all!
If I had a nickel for every time I’m asked “is that a real Rolex” about my Oysterquartz I’d be a wealthy man.
Owning a roller and the knowledge of them already makes you a wealthy gentleman
I love those! I need an Oysterquartz and a King Midas too.
