I can imagine the difficulty of producing this brief article given the enormity of designs used over time. Or rather. used over dial. Ha!
The sprinklings of horological history was enjoyable. Perhaps a brief exploration and explanation of the ancient yet still relevant sexagesimal system could be a topic in the future.
On the matter of apprpate hand length
A question arises with the description of the golden ratio and the use of the fraction one-third. Say the minute hand is 12mm, giving use a 4mm hour hand. Would two-thirds be a better approximation of the Golden (1.618) ratio / Fibonacci sequence? Giving us 8mm for the hour hand.
A little thing, but those are the important things, yes.

It is believed that “clockwise” rotation became the standard because it resembled the course of the shadow on sundials in the northern hemisphere.

I don’t catch this! Seems to me the shadow runs counterclockwise ine northern hemisphere.
